Choosing Furniture for the Kitchen
When most people think of kitchen furniture they think of breakfast nook furniture or a table and chairs for eating informal meals. So what is the best way to buy breakfast nook furniture? Should you buy it piece meal, or as a set? There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
A breakfast nook table set usually comes with seating arrangements whether that be chairs, benches, or a combination of both. The advantage to buying this way is that you know the seating and the table will match perfectly. Not only will colors and stains match, but the chairs will be the right height for sitting at that particular table and the benches will be just the right length to fit on each side of the breakfast table. When you buy each piece separately, you run the risk of things not lining up just right. This fact is even more apparent if you go for a corner nook. The L-shaped bench that fits into the corner needs to be just right for the setup to work. You would be hard pressed to find an L-shaped bench with exactly the right dimensions if you were buying it separately from the table.
However, buying furniture piece by piece can be fun and exciting. Imagine how excited you would be to find the perfect chair to finish your breakfast nook set at a yard sale or flee market. When you find a piece that fits you will have that moment of elation. Also, the eclectic look that results from buying each piece from a different place and time is fun and interesting from a decorators perspective. Many of the breakfast nooks you buy as a set look very much like they just came off of an assembly line in a factory and they do not have much character.
